Review by Mike Strickland
A very good tree reference for the southeast. It contains the obligatory diagrams to familiarize the reader with leaf, flower and seed parts. It has a number of keys for the different families of trees and has a summer key to families in the front and a winter key (complete with photos of twigs to assist in identification) to families in the back. Between these two keys is a comprehensive listing of plant descriptions which contain the Genus species, Common Names(s), Distribution Map, Description (including leaves, twigs, bark, flowers and fruit), Recognition Difficulties with other trees, Habitat, and Uses. Many of the trees described also have color photos to illustrate leaves, flowers, and or fruit - the photos are all together toward the center of the book making them easy to find, but a bit difficult to associate with the text. There is also a glossary in the back. All measurements are standard instead of metric, making it a little easier for most to use. This book claims to cover all trees native to Georgia.
